Casual Holiday Style with Walmart | MsGoldgirl

The holidays are right around the corner and it’s time to come up with some new outfits for all the holiday gatherings you have coming up on your calendar. When most people think about dressing for the holidays, they think of something glamorous and sparkly, and I do have that coming up in a post later this month. But for me, and probably many of you reading this, most of my holiday parties or get togethers are at a friend or family member’s home, and they’re actually rather casual. Neighborhood potlucks, friends’ open houses, Thanksgiving afternoons spent helping in the kitchen, playing outside with the kids (I live in the South)…none of this lends itself to sequins and stilettos. So I came up with two easy, cute, and COMFORTABLE outfits that can be worn to Thanksgiving or a holiday event coming up in December that will still leave you feeling stylish and they won’t break your budget either! That’s because every piece you see below, from the clothes to the shoes to the accessories is from !

OUTFIT #1
THANKSGIVING

Casual Holiday Fashion

Pearl Earrings & Pearl Necklace in store only

To me, this outfit screams fall and Thanksgiving. You’ve seen the jeans several times before on my YouTube channel, they’re the and they come in other washes besides the distressed one you see here. If you’d prefer to dress this up a bit, I recommend the instead. I also have this in the ivory color, but when I saw it in this I had to grab it. Maybe I’m just already craving pumpkin pie, but I think it’s the perfect layering piece for Thanksgiving day. It does run snug, so if you want a little room for that pie, remember to size up one (I have it in medium). The statement piece from this outfit is this GORGEOUS buffalo check open cardigan-shown here in the ivory and beige combination. It also comes in a black and white pattern if that’s more your thing, but this whole combination is just perfect for Thanksgiving celebrations and fall gatherings.  It looks like wool and has the weight of a wool blanket, but it’s not scratchy at all. It has deep functional pockets and it can double as a coat. I found these adorable vegan suede booties on the Walmart website-I have open toe booties from the same brand and I love these just as much. They’re lined with faux shearling and are so comfortable and easy to wear straight out of the box. These are going to be my for the rest of the season! I finished off the look with jewelry featuring another trend from this season-pearls! Obviously, these are not real pearls, since both the earrings and the necklace are under $5 each! The earrings are really two earrings in one, since the dangling part can be removed and the pearls can be worn as just studs. All I need is a plate of pumpkin pie with some whipped cream and I’m ready for Thanksgiving!

OUTFIT #2
DRESSED UP AT HOME

| | Slouchy Boots |

This second outfit is still fairly casual, but since it’s a dress and not jeans, it’s just a little bit dressy. This is perfect for an evening at a neighbor’s home, or drinks with family. Maybe it’s an afternoon open house and you want to kick it up a notch. Whatever the excuse, it’s also another way to take a summer dress and bring it into the cooler weather. I grabbed this on-trend shirt dress that comes in a fun python print (it also comes in leopard as well as solid colors) and dressed it down a bit by throwing a casual sweater over it. To make the sweater a little more form fitting, I took the belt that came with the dress and tied it around my natural waist and then “bloused” the sweater over it to hide the belt. If you’re worried about your legs getting cold you could always add opaque black tights, but I just opted for slouchy faux leather boots for a block heel to keep my legs covered and to make the outfit more conducive to walking around the neighborhood. If the sweater isn’t your thing, this dress also comes in a long sleeve option! If you wanted to dress up the look, I’d suggest swapping out the low, slouchy boots for a sleeker, up to the knee boot with a higher, slimmer heel like these.

I have to admit I couldn’t wait for the holidays and I’ve already worn this outfits a few times. And while I was scouring the website, I found quite a few more pieces that I wanted! Stay tuned for later this month to see two more outfits that I put together that are a lot more glam-and next time there will be sequins, satin, and (faux) fur!

  1. Hi Marnie! You may have mentioned it before, but what size in the Walmart jeans did you get? You and I are similar in size and I am wondering with the relaxed fit, is it better to size down? Do they stretch out easily? Thanks!

    1. I would get your true size. They do stretch. I have the size 6 and they’re a bit too big but I wear them more as a boyfriend style.
