All About Dogs | Marnie & Michael Monday
Welcome to a new video in the Marnie & Michael video series!! I know it’s been awhile, and it will not become a regular feature on my channel, but when a subject comes up that Michael and I both feel passionately about, then we will definitely make a video. This week it’s all about dogs. In fact, we’re so passionate about this subject that we have made TWO videos, and we probably could have gone on to film another 2 hours of footage if our camera battery hadn’t quit on us! If you’re a regular YouTube viewer and are here to catch the bonus video, scroll on down to the bottom of the post. If you’re a blog reader and have no idea what I’m talking about, we posted a video on my YouTube channel and realized it was getting too long, so I posted the second half of the video here on my website. You can only see it by coming over to MsGoldgirl. So if you’re still here, you must be a dog lover like we are!!
If you’re not familiar with our furry family, here’s a picture of the family as of 2017:
(l-r): Mimi, Rowdy, Wrigley
Before I get into the second video, I did want to list some items and resources that we found are invaluable to us, especially with the newest member of the furry family, Rowdy. Sometimes, accidents happen, and it’s not just dogs that make the messes-sometimes it’s your kids! That’s why we swear by Kids N Pets Stain and Odor Removing Spray for messes on all sorts of fabric (carpeting, furniture, bedding, etc.) and hard surfaces as well as their Carpet Cleaning Powder to freshen up the scent when we vacuum the area rugs each week. You can find them at but the prices are a little better on Amazon.
Michael and I are also big believers in crate training. The dogs don’t spend a ton of time in their crates, but when they do we want them to be comfortable. We only put them in there when they’re eating and when we’re not home (they sleep in bed with us). Rowdy spends a little more time in his crate as he’s still working on perfecting house training, but he’s almost there!! At this stage in his development, the crate pads need to be comfortable BUT stain and chew resistant. We bought two for his crate. One to put in with him, and one to keep as back up when we’re washing the other one. They both still look brand new! Speaking of feeding, the bowl we decided to get for him, based on viewer suggestions, is a slow feeder bowl. Weimaraners in particular are known to gulp down their food, which can cause a fatal condition called bloat, as well as just make him generally sick. A slow feeder bowl as raised inserts inside it that cause the dog to have to pick out the food-they can’t possibly gulp it down. It works like a charm!! It also makes them have to think a bit to get their food-which is good for their little developing brains!! When he’s not chowing down on his puppy food, Rowdy is still looking to chew on something, and his favorite chew toy is a water buffalo horn. It sounds disgusting, but it’s better than a lot of the other options out there!! They’re also really inexpensive, which is a nice change!!
Finally, we swear by a book that is a little bit old-school, but they have revised it in 2011 and they are just spot on when it comes to dealing with puppies. It’s by the Monks of New Skete (yes, seriously, monks) and it’s called The Art of Raising A Puppy. If you’re even thinking about getting a puppy, read this book first!!
And now, without further ado, what you’ve all been waiting for and why the majority of you are probably here…part two of the video! Here it is: More About The Dogs with Marnie & Michael!
Great two part series on dogs. You gave so much good information in thoughtful answers – Thank you for all of us who are dog lovers. Loved what you said about teaching children to treat dogs with respect.

Love the M&M videos! Anything you choose to discuss, I will watch. This was a great video series, and I watched both to the end.
This was a such a great video with such ‘meaty’ information that is going to be helpful to so many! Your love and passion for dogs truly comes through and I for one, find it heartwarming. I, too, am a dog lover–Sophie (our schnozzle) sleeps with my husband and I:)
ugh, autocorrect! schnoodle… (schnauzer/poodle)
I loved your blog video. It answered a lot of my questions on breeds, and picking a breeder. Thank you for the insight!
