My Summer Wardrobe Basics
Even though I mostly talk about beauty products, I get quite a few questions about what I wear on a daily basis. I have a few key pieces that I reach for in the summer, all with the idea of looking cool and FEELING cool. When you live in South Texas and the heat index is over 100 degrees on a regular basis, staying cool is a major priority. Keep reading to see what my summer wardrobe basics are!
DRESSES
My absolute favorite go-to wardrobe staple for summer is a dress, preferably a longer one but always flowing and loose fitting. I find them much more comfortable to wear than a pair of shorts and frankly more figure flattering as well.

SHIRTS
I’ve kind of moved away from tank tops and camisoles and prefer to wear loose, blousy cotton t-shirts. I usually pair them with cropped chino, skirts and even the occasional pair of shorts.

PANTS
As long as the pants are cotton and loose fitting, I can still wear (and love to wear) pants in the summer. When the sun sets, the temps drop and then I can pull out my favorite boyfriend jeans too!

SHORTS
I’m not a huge fan of shorts (I frankly feel like a 5 pound sausage in a 3 pound casing) but I finally found one style of shorts that fit me consistently and that I find to be flattering. It’s the Riviera Short from Loft and every year they release new colors and styles, but stay consistent with the fit.

SHOES
I don’t get all that adventurous with my shoes in the summer, but I did try out a new brand recently-M. Gemi. I ordered the Stellatos and they are frankly the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I took them with me to Ole Miss Orientation and walked miles in them! I’m definitely going to buy a few more pairs in the next few months! My other favorite styles for summer are flat sandal/flip flops and nude/brown wedges. Bring on the pedicures!

ALL THE OTHER STUFF
There are a few important pieces that don’t necessarily fall into one neat category. I must have a really soft chambray shirt for the summer-it’s the perfect thing to throw over a top or dress when you go into an air-conditioned office or restaurant, and a denim vest is the perfect thing to top a sleeveless dress or top to add a little more coverage to an outfit that might bare more than you’re comfortable showing. I also had to mention my favorite little half-camis, which are perfect for wearing under maxi-dresses! Check out my favorite extra pieces below!
These pieces all make up my basic summer uniform, but I have so much more to show you! Let me know if you’d like to see my favorite summer accessories, purses and more!
YES to summer accessories, purses & more!! I love your style. I live in TN, although it isn’t as hot as South Texas, we still have lots of humidity. I wear more shorts in the summer than anything. Last summer I purchased a few inexpensive knit skirts, that hit at or right above my knee, and I love them. They are soft, comfortable and cool.
I’ve got to check out the Dress Barn. You have found some adorable dresses there.
