Vlogmas 2014: A Recap

It’s usual to reflect at this time of year, but instead of looking back over all of 2014, I’d like to focus on the month of December, namely the period I covered during Vlogmas (December 1-25).
I’ve been vlogging on a weekly basis for quite awhile now, but I’ve never attempted a daily vlog before, and I learned some things about myself, and about my channel, that I’d like to share.
First of all, it’s HARD!! Just remembering to take the camera out constantly to document, document, document can be tricky.  You really have to train yourself to have that camera out and ready to go at all times.  Then there are the people in my life that don’t necessarily want everything they do to be broadcast to the world.  It’s not that we’re hiding anything, but think about what it would be like to have cameras following you around EVERYWHERE.  Doesn’t leave you a lot of time to pick your nose or scratch your behind. 🙂
It’s also a very grueling schedule-film all day, get it loaded into iMovie, edit, upload, and descriptions, links, etc…it made for some very long days and late nights.
Secondly, it was FUN!!  The level of interaction I was able to have with my viewers was something I didn’t expect.  It’s the next best thing to having you with me in real life.  I truly felt like you were all with me all the time, which is both comforting and very, very surreal.  Once it was over, I almost felt lonely!
So as to what I learned….I need to get more organized.  I thought I was organized until I started doing Vlogmas, and realized that I had not planned for anything other than doing daily vlogs.  My usual content for my YouTube channel went *POOF*.  If I had planned in advance, I would have been able to upload more of my regular videos in addition to vlogging every day. As a result, I’ve decided to start scheduling my videos in advance, writing down ideas for new videos (I’ve been pretty much winging it up until now) and setting down a true “work” schedule.  Hopefully that will mean better, more consistent quality videos for you!
I’ve also learned that I really like vlogging!  So while I really can’t continue the pace of daily vlogging, the weekly vlog is here to stay.  I don’t think I can wait until next December to do another spat of daily vlogging, so when I get an opportunity to do it again, I will.  I’m open to suggestions as to when I should try it…I’m also working on which day of the week I will upload my vlogs.  I thought Wednesday was a good day to do it, but this week I’m trying Friday…but it’s all fluid.  More than likely, Wednesday will be vlog day.  It’s a good way to break up the week.
So…the last thing I want to say to all of you is…THANK YOU!!
Thank you for watching all my Vlogmas videos (you watched in record numbers), thank you for commenting, thank you for recommending me to your friends, thank you for all the encouragement, just….thank you!
And for those of you that commented on my most recent Weekly Vlog and said you’re glad that I’m back, I never went anywhere!  I still post videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In case you missed Vlogmas and have A LOT of time to kill…here’s the whole playlist: MsGoldgirl’s Vlogmas 2014.
Happy New Year,
Marnie
