What’s New At The Drugstore | May 2016
I used to shop at the drugstore for my makeup a lot (maybe too much). Then I got sucked in to the world of high-end, luxury makeup. I’m still firmly planted with both feet in , , etc, but I still also REALLY love the instant gratification of hitting the corner drugstore and getting all sorts of goodies. So starting this month, I’m going to do a series both on my YouTube channel and here on the blog featuring products I’ve picked up that month from the drugstore. So without further ado….here’s What’s New At The Drugstore for May 2016:
I picked up two products from -the and the . I really like the coverage of the , but it’s really geared for more normal to combo skin (I have dry), so it does feel drying after awhile. I think this is a great option for my more oily friends. It also doesn’t offer a lot of shade selections. The has a lovely creamy texture–sort of like butter–but it smells awful. I have a high tolerance for scents, but this one seems to linger, even after it’s been applied to my face. If you can get past the scent, the is an amazing option for those that skew to the extremely fair-skinned. I guarantee this won’t be too orange or too dark for you!
Next on the list are some offerings from Milani Cosmetics. Milani makes one of my top 3 favorite lipstick formulas-the . I just picked up another shade for my collection-. It’s a beautiful orange-red that’s a must for the summer. The other two items from Milani were not favorites-the Easy Brow Tinted Fiber Gel and the Moisture Lock Oil Infused Lip Treatment. The Brow Gel isn’t pigmented enough, and it didn’t hold my brows as well as my preferred brow mascara, the . The Moisture Lock Oil seemed gimmicky and messy. If my lips are dry, I’ll just use a regular lip balm.
I only picked up one thing from Wet n Wild-their newly repackaged, but still my favorite eyeshadow primer, now called Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer. This is my favorite eyeshadow primer, whether it’s high-end or drugstore. You have to try it!
There was only one other product I picked up that I actually liked-the new CoverGirl x Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks. The formula is super soft, creamy, and not at all drying. The finish is more of a demi-matte than a straight of Sahara kind of dry, which is just how I like it.
Just to make sure you don’t waste your money, let me list the rest of the misses for you–be sure to take a pass on the Revlon ColorStay Not Just Nudes palette (dry, powdery, and not very pigmented), the Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art in Lilac Luster (but grab it in ), the L’Oreal Colour Riche Exclusive Collection Lipstick in Blake’s Pink (neon pink that goes on patchy) and the CoverGirl SuperSizer Fiber Mascara (just…meh).
Here’s a recap of my current faves from the drugstore (some old ones are in here too)…let me know what you’re loving lately and what you’d like to see me pick up next time!
I totally agree on the scent of the Butter Bronzer. I do love it, and it does disappear after a little while – but man – it is strong! I am on the hunt for the Katy kat Matte lipsticks in the shades I like. Every time I see a display, my shades are out.
Thanks for sharing Marnie!
