What’s New in Beauty // June 2016
One of the greatest perks of being a Beauty YouTuber is that cosmetic brands send me new releases of products fairly often. Here’s a look at what’s new in beauty for this month-the good, the amazing, and the just “meh”. I’ve also done a video on this, so if you haven’t already subscribed to my YouTube channel, hop over there and subscribe so you don’t miss any future videos!
This was probably one of the most hyped releases on the planet, and since it’s currently (mostly) sold out online at Sephora, it seems everyone agrees-it’s pretty awesome. But don’t despair-the collection is going to be released in stores at Sephora on June 16th, so you still have a chance to pick up something from the collection!
Here’s the quick run down:
If you have to have one piece, it’s the ($52). It has the limited edition Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Proseco Pop, as well as a limited edition Luminous Blush in Rose Spritz. Of course it also has Champagne Pop in it as well as two mineral blushes, but those are the stars of the palette and if you’re a collector, you need to have it. I really hope that Becca releases the Luminous Blush as a permanent shade, because it’s the most wearable out of all the shades they’ve released. I love it!
The ($40) is ok, but the shimmer shades are nothing to get excited about-they’re easily dupable. However, surprisingly it’s the matte shades in the palette that are the stand outs. They’re soft, creamy, pigmented and very easily blended. I’d reach for this palette just for the matte shades!
The rest of the offerings are pretty standard-a ($38), as well as a ($41). These aren’t (as of writing this) sold out online, so if you want to say you have something from the collection, you can still get these.
The Estee Edit is a spin-off from the grown-up brand Estee Lauder. They’re trying to attract a younger, “cooler” fan base, and I’d say they’re doing a pretty good job. The products are actually quite nice, and much less expensive than the offerings from Estee Lauder proper. I’ve been using the ($24) quite a bit, and I’m a big fan of the two mascaras in one concept. One end gives you volume, and the other end gives you lift and separates the lashes. Neither side is clumpy or flakes, so it’s a great mascara. ($32) has some of the coolest packaging I’ve seen, but unfortunately they sent me the medium/deep shade which I can’t use at all. I’ve looked at the Light/Medium option online and it’s gorgeous-I might have to grab it for myself! ($22) is basically a giant felt-tip marker that comes to a nice fine point. It’s very user friendly, even for those of us that are liquid-liner challenged! They also sent me The Flash Illuminator ($28), but again, the shade was too dark to use as intended. However, it looks to be a great dupe for the liquid Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors and they have quite a range of shades to choose from (and they’re less expensive)!
Urban Decay is discontinuing their Revolution lipsticks and bringing in the new Vice Lipstick Line on June 5th. The range offers 5 different textures-Mega Matte, Comfort Matte (formerly Matte Revolution), Creams (formerly Revolution lipstick), Sheers (formerly Sheer Revolution), Sheer Shimmers and Metallized. I was sent a few shades from each texture except the Sheers & Sheer Shimmers. What can I say…they’re nice? They are rather pigmented, there is an amazing array of shades–I believe there are 100–and with the 5 different finishes there will be something for everyone. It’s just hard for me to get excited about them. There will be manyshades exclusive to Sephora, but the rest can also be found at Urban Decay, Nordstrom, Ulta, Beauty.com and Ulta. Lipsticks will be $17 and all are permanent to the line (until they’re discontinued for something else).
MAKE UP FOR EVER has recently collaborated with Charli XCX and released their new Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner ($21). There are 21 shades in the collection with 5 different finishes-matte, satiny, iridescent, metallic and diamond. If you’re using them as an eyeliner just along the lash line, it will be hard to see the difference between most of the finishes, but the metallic ones are quite bright. These liners set quickly and DO NOT budge, but they are easy to take off each night with my Bioderma Micellar Water. I love them and haven’t reached for any other eye liner ever since I got these!
One last thing…enter the giveaway below to get your own Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pressed AND one in Poured!! The contest is open internationally and ends on Friday, June 10th at 11:59 pm Central Time. Winners will be announced by email on June 11th, so if you don’t hear from me on that day, you didn’t win this time.
